एक फाइव-स्टार होटल में बने शानदार मल्टी-कूज़ीन रेस्तरां (रेस्टॉरेंट) के फ्लोर मैनेजर को काफी मुश्किल का सामना करना पड़ा, जब उसके रेस्तरां में छह महिलाएं पहुंचीं, और प्रत्येक ने टेबल दिए जाने की फरमाइश की... और हां, मुसीबत यहीं खत्म नहीं हुई, क्योंकि उनकी कुछ शर्तें भी थीं...

दरअसल, रेस्तरां में छह बहुत सुंदर केबिननुमा टेबल लगी थीं... ये टेबल सीधी पंक्ति में लगी थीं, और प्रत्येक को एक-दूसरे से अलग करने के लिए पतले, लेकिन खूबसूरत पार्टिशन लगे हुए थे...

अब इन सभी छह महिलाओं को इन्हीं टेबलों पर बिठाया जाना था, लेकिन उनकी शर्तों का ध्यान रखना भी बेहद ज़रूरी था...

• सुकन्या का कहना था, उसे भोजन के दौरान अपने किसी क्लायंट से फोन पर बात करते रहना है...
• सुकृति सिर्फ टेबल नंबर पांच पर बैठना चाहती थी, क्योंकि पांच उसका भाग्यशाली नंबर है...
• सुलक्षणा और सुगन्धा बहनें थीं, और साथ-साथ लगी टेबलों पर बैठना चाहती थीं, ताकि एक-दूसरे से बात करती रह सकें...
• महिलाओं में से तीन - सुहासिनी, सुलक्षणा तथा सुनयना - सिगरेट पीती हैं, जबकि सुकृति को सिगरेट के धुएं से एलर्जी है, सो, उसके आसपास की टेबलों पर निश्चित रूप से वही बैठ सकते हैं, जो सिगरेट नहीं पीते...

Kids enjoyed that thoroughly, and when they came back, the youngest Samagra told me, "Bade Papa, we have seen three types of animals in the zoo... Bees had six legs each, spiders had eight legs each, and mice had four legs each..."

The five children of my family - Saarthak, Nishtha, Jigyaasa, Ambar, and Samagra - participated in a Sanskrit Mantrochchaaran (mantra recital or incantation) competition, for which five mantras - Gayatri Mantra, Maha-Mrityunjay Mantra, Praatah-kaaleen Mantra, Namokkaar Mahamantra, and Shri Ram Stuti - were chosen...

For the competition, the kids needed to recite one of the mantras five times, another four times, the third mantra needed to be recited three times, the fourth one two times, and the fifth and last mantra only once, but they needed to make sure that no two kids recite the same mantra the same number of times...

So, each of the kids needed to recite these five mantras 15 times in toto, and they were to be adjudged for their pronunciation...

Gayantri Mantra took 48 seconds in one recital; Maha-Mrityunjay Mantra 78 seconds; Praatah-kaaleen Mantra needed 88 seconds; Namokkaar Mahamantra 116 seconds; and Shri Ram Stuti took 128 seconds to finish each time its recited...

• Saarthak took four minutes to complete the recital of Gayantri Mantra; and spent five minutes 10 seconds in reciting Namokkaar Mahamantra & Maha-mrityunjay Mantra combined...

My and brother's kids - Saarthak, Nishtha, Jigyaasa & Ambar - went to a mountaneering trip, where they needed to cross a gorge between two peaks by hanging through a rope...

But the problem was, the bats who attack the people on the rope, until they are wearing an electrical jacket, which can be worn by two kids at one time...

The gorge was more than 250 meters wide, so the jacket could not be thrown back, and someone had to be back through the rope wearing the jacket, until all four of them reach safely on the other peak...

As I and Saarthak used to come here to cycle often, so, we decided to do the same this time too, but as the park was very huge, we decided to take breaks, so that Nishtha did not have to cycle in a long single stretch...

• We halted for the first time, when we had covered 180 meters more than the one-third of the total distance...
• We took a break for the second time, when we had covered one-fourth of the remaining distance...
• The third break came, when we had covered one-third of the remaining distance...
• We halted for the fourth time, when we had covered one-fifth of the remaining distance...
• We took the fifth break, when we had covered 162 meters less than one-fourth of the remaining distance...
• The sixth break came, when we had covered 30 per cent of the remaining distance...
• Suddenly Nishtha complained of a sprain the her ankle, and we had to take the seventh break, when we had only covered one-sixth of the remaining distance...
• We took the eighth break, when we had covered three-seventh of the remaining distance...
• Ninth break came, when we had covered 100 meters less than half of the remaining distance...
• We halted for the tenth time, when we had covered three-fourth of the remaining distance...

मेरे पास पूरी दीवार के आकार का लकड़ी का बना एक शो-केस था, जिसमें एक के ऊपर एक तीन स्लैब थीं, जिनमें से प्रत्येक में सामान रखने के लिए तीन खाने बने थे...

सो, कुल मिलाकर उसमें नौ खाने बने हुए थे...

मैंने उस शो-केस को अपने घर के ड्राइंग रूम में उस दीवार से सटाकर खड़ा कर दिया, जिसमें कोई खिड़की न थी, और उसके प्रत्येक खाने में एक शो-पीस अथवा इलेक्ट्रॉनिक उपकरण रख दिया...

शो-केस के खानों में रखे गए शो-पीस अथवा इलेक्ट्रॉनिक उपकरण थे - एक डीवीडी प्लेयर, एक प्लाज़्मा टीवी, एक लैपटॉप, एक फूलदान, एक स्टीरियो सिस्टम, एक फोटो फ्रेम, एक घड़ी, एक कॉर्डलेस फोन, तथा कुछ किताबें...

अब यदि मैं शो-केस के सामने वाली दीवार से सटाकर रखे गए सोफे पर बैठकर शो-केस की ओर देखता हूं, मुझे एक के ऊपर एक तीन खाने मेरे बाईं ओर दिखाई देते हैं, एक के ऊपर एक तीन खाने बीच में दिखाई देते हैं, और एक के ऊपर एक तीन खाने मेरे दाईं ओर दिखाई देते हैं...

• घड़ी को सबसे नीचे वाली स्लैब में नहीं रखा गया था...
• प्लाज़्मा टीवी को कॉर्डलेस फोन के ठीक ऊपर, और किताबों के ठीक बगल में रखा गया था, जबकि किताबें बाईं ओर के तीन खानों में से एक में रखी गई थीं...
• फोटो फ्रेम को शो-केस में बाईं तरफ के खानों में से एक में रखा गया था, और वह प्लाज़्मा टीवी के एकदम ऊपर वाली स्लैब पर रखा गया था...

I had a very big wooden showcase, which had three slabs one above the other, with three cubicles on each slab...

In other words, it had a total of nine cubicles...

I put the showcase in my drawing room, with the wall that had no window, and put a different showpiece or electronic appliance in each of the cubicles...

The showpieces and electronic appliances were a DVD Player, a Plasma TV, a Laptop, a Flower Vase, a Stereo System, a Photo Frame, a Clock, a Cordless Phone, and some Books...

Now, when I sit on the sofa in the room, put with the opposite wall, facing the showcase, I see three cubicles one above the other on my left side, three cubicles one above the other in the center, and three cubicles one above the other on my right side...

• The clock was not put on the bottom slab...
• The plasma TV was put directly above the cordless phone, and directly next to books (which were put in one of the three cubicles on the left side...)
• The photo frame was put on the left side of the showcase, and it was put one slab higher than the plasma TV...
• The flower vase was put directly above the plasma TV...
• The laptop was put directly above the stereo system...

Now, can you guys tell me, if you look at the showcase sitting on the sofa, which thing was put where...?

सपनों में दिखती हैं पहेलियां... (I dream of riddles...)

कल रात मैंने एक सपना देखा, जिसमें मैं भारतीय रेल के कुछ इंजीनियरों के साथ बातचीत कर रहा हूं, और उन्होंने मुझे बताया, "विवेक जी, हमने एक ऐसा ट्रेन इंजन विकसित किया है, जो पानी और नमक के घोल से चलाया जा सकता है..."

मैंने उन सभी को बधाई दी, और उन्होंने मुझे इंजन के बारे में एक और बढ़िया जानकारी दी, "विवेक जी, इस इंजन से न सिर्फ ढेरों ईंधन और बिजली की बचत होगी, यह चलता भी बहुत तेज़ गति से है..."

मैंने कुछ सेकंड मन ही मन हिसाब लगाया, लेकिन इससे पहले कि मैं टीम प्रमुख को जवाब दे पाता, जश्न मना रहे इंजीनियरों में से एक ने मेरे सिर पर पानी से भरा जग पलट दिया, और मेरी नींद खुल गई...

जैसा कि आपने पढ़ा, मुझे इस सवाल का जवाब देने का अवसर नहीं मिल पाया, परन्तु मैं आप लोगों को मौका दे रहा हूं, सो, जल्द से जल्द इसका उत्तर बताइए...

I saw a dream last night, in which I was talking to a team of engineers working with Indian Railways, and they told me, "Vivek ji, we have developed a revolutionary train engine, which can run on saline (solution of distilled water and Sodium Chloride - Salt)...

I congratulated all of them, and they told me another good thing about it, "Vivek ji, not only this engine will save a lot of fuel or electricity, but it can run at a very fast speed too..."

I immediately asked, "How fast...?"

They said, "Vivek ji, we tested it on a goods train last week, and the engine could pull the entire train at the speed of 126 kilometers per hour..."

I congratulated them once again, and then their team-leader asked me smiling, "May I ask you a riddle, as I have heard that you are very fond of them...?"
